Poco F1: How Could Xiaomi Price It So Low?

Xiaomi’s ever famous Poco F1 is now official. The company announced the device today in India and the first flash sale takes place on 29th August through Flipkart. Besides a poor name, everything about the Poco F1 is crazy for its pricing.

Tell me this is not impressive – The Poco F1 comes with a Snapdragon 845 chipset along with the Adreno 630 GPU. We get dual cameras at the back (12MP + 5MP) and a 20MP front camera. The 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant of the device is priced at Rs 20,999. The 6GB+128GB variant is priced at Rs 23,999 and there is also an 8GB+256GB variant priced at Rs 28,999.

If this didn’t excite you, the Poco F1 comes with a 4000 mAh battery, a 6.18-inch Full HD display and Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Here are the detailed specifications. There is also a liquid cooling technology for all you gamers out there which claims to significantly reduce the CPU heat. Sure, it does come with a notch but unlike most of the smartphones in the market, it has IR Face Recognition. In other words, the Face Unlock on Poco F1 will also work in dark. Good Job Xiaomi!

Inspired by the sheer demand of geeks on reditt, the Poco F1 absolutely destroys any phone in its price bracket. I can easily see people trying out the Poco F1 over the OnePlus 6 just because the latter is slightly getting out of their budget.

How is Xiaomi managing all of this hardware at such an aggressive price?

There are certainly quite a bit of sensible compromises which Xiaomi has taken for the Poco F1. First up is the the complete construction. The Poco F1 is built out of Polycarbonate, a fancy sounding name for plastic, which definitely makes it a rare breed in today’s world. However, I personally feel that having a polycarbonate shell is not that big of a problem. I mean, as long as the Poco F1 feels sturdy in hands and can sustain minor drops, Polycarbonate works for me. Plastic is still sturdier than Glass. Just Saying!

Apart from this, the Poco F1 comes with Gorilla Glass 3. This clearly indicates Xiaomi’ s strategy – Going for a fairly old non-relevant hardware to compensate for the latest relevant hardware. How many of you actually use your phone without a tempered or a screen guard?

Besides, things like the speaker output were something which was definitely not on Xiaomi’s priority list as well. So yes, Xiaomi have made a bunch of compromises but they look pretty tiny against what you actually get for the price.

At the moment, Xiaomi is eyeing yet another best seller award for this year with the Poco F1 and to be honest, it shouldn’t be that difficult.

What do you think? Would you go for the Poco F1 and choose performance over design? Let us know in the comment section below.
