OnePlus Type-C Bullets Earphones Review: Worth Rs 1,500?

The 3.5mm headphone jack is counting its last breath and except Samsung and LG, the entire smartphone industry has bid adieu to the headphone jack. So how are you prepared for this shockingly expected change? You either get yourself a pair of wireless earphones or if that is a little out of your budget – USB Type-C is the future.

I recently bought myself a OnePlus 6T and even though I had a pair of Bluetooth earphones, I wanted to get myself a pair Type-C earphones. Fortunately, OnePlus is selling their own Type-C Bullets earphones for a price of Rs 1,490 and they should supposedly work best on the 6T. So, here is my comprehensive review of OnePlus Type-C Bullets earphones.

What is not good with OnePlus Type-C Bullets Earphones?

Let me first get off all the downsides of these earphones. So what doesn’t feel right with these earphones?

Build Quality

I personally didn’t like the build quality on the OnePlus Type-C Bullets earphones the moment I unboxed it. I am not talking about design here, but the materials used, especially the in-line remote. Although the actual ear-housing is acceptable, the in-line remote is made out of plastic and screams cheap quality. For a price of Rs 1,490, you do expect good sturdy materials used. Thankfully, there is a flat cable to save you from any sort of tangling.

No carrying pouch included in the box

This is again a personal opinion but not having a carrying pouch for a Rs 1,500 earphones is kind of a bummer for me. Fortunately, I had a spear case from previous my earphones but OnePlus definitely could have included a carrying case or a pouch inside the box.

What is good with OnePlus Type-C earphones?

So now that we have all the downsides aside, why you should still shell your crucial money on these earphones?

Design and Comfort

The build quality might not be up to the mark but OnePlus is on point when it comes to design and comfort. The earphones are light, they fit pretty snugly in the ears and there is a tendency of you completely ignoring their presence after a point of time.

There is a flat cable running along and the earbuds are cylindrical in shape. The housing is extremely small and lightweight and you can use them even while lying in bed quite comfortably.

The quality of the ear tips is good as well and you get two extra in the box of different sizes. The medium size generally fit me well and so was the case here. Keep in mind, comfort is something that will entirely depend on your ear size and shape. What I can claim here is that comfort level generally with these earphones is pretty damn impressing.

Sound

People still have a lot of questions when it comes to Type-C Earphones especially with the sound. So how do these fair out in the sound department?

Well, they sound extremely good for the price. I am a fan of how OnePlus has tuned the sound on these earphones. The sound output is rich, the bass is punchy, the mids are good too and it boasts just the right treble output as well.

Keep in mind that, the audio output through Type-C might vary with different devices. So this review is entirely based on my usage with OnePlus 6T with the Type-C Bullets Earphones enhancement turned on in the settings.

I listened to a ton of songs with these earphones. From slow coffee melodies to EDM to old school Michael Jackson pop, the OnePlus Type-C Bullets earphones handle all genres of music quite well. And you know what, I haven’t even told you about my favourite part of the sound yet.

Yes, apart from the generic sound signature comment, I absolutely loved the soundstage on these earphones. I have used the Sennheiser’s, the JBLs, my previous favourite RHA MA 390 universals. But, believe me when I say thi – OnePlus Type-C Bullets earphones beat any competition at this price range when it comes to soundstage. Keep it up! OnePlus.

In-line microphone and remote

Besides the bashing I gave for the materials used for the in-line remote, it works well. In fact, OnePlus Type-C Bullets is one of the few earphones in the market that has not posed any issues (for me) while taking calls. The buttons are also tactile and everything works just as it should.

OnePlus Type-C Bullets Earphones Verdict: Should You Buy It?

If you have already transitioned to the wireless world or your phone still has our beloved headphone jack, you might want to wait until you buy these earphones. On the other hand, if you have just bought a OnePlus 6T, Pixel 2 or Pixel 3 or any other phone that doesn’t hae a headphone jack, the OnePlus Type-C Bullets earphones is a must buy. They offer exceptional sound quality for the price although they are let down in the build quality department.

Kindly note, if you intend to use these earphones with phones which already has a headphone jack, you might have to switch on the USB OTG functionality to make these work.

I hope this review of the OnePlus Type-C Bullets earphones was helpful. Don’t forget to check out our YouTube channel where we will soon upload the video version of this review.
