It’s that time of the year again. It has almost been 6 months since OnePlus launched its last smartphone in the market and it just might be the time for the next ‘T’ flagship iteration from the Chinese giant. OnePlus has yet again exceeded the expectations giving away best of both the worlds – software and hardware at an extremely competitive price with the OnePlus 6. And with OnePlus 6T now in the pipeline, what do we already know about the upcoming flagship from the company? Let’s break it down.
Water-drop Notch and In-Display Fingerprint Scanner
This by far has been the biggest and the most recent leaks of the OnePlus 6T. PhoneArena recently posted a picture of the possible retail box of the OnePlus 6T which gave away a couple of massive hints about the phone’s design.
As clearly seen in the picture below, OnePlus 6T might take cues from the Oppo R17 when it comes to the display notch. The device is expected to come with a water-drop notch which will house the front-facing camera, thus, increasing the overall screen real estate. Besides this, the 6T is also tipped to boast an in-display fingerprint scanner which is quite interesting. In-display fingerprint scanners are definitely there but they are not as fast as the conventional scanners. It will be interesting to see if OnePlus can pull off an upgrade to the current in-display fingerprint scanners.
Now the camera is still more of a blurry rumour as of now. If we go by the trend with the past two iterations, OnePlus has borrowed the design and camera specifications from the Oppo R series devices. Now the latest device in the R series is the OPPO R17 which comes in two models – a regular variant and a pro variant. The regular variant comes with a dual-camera setup while the Pro variant comes with 3 cameras at the back.
Now if OnePlus decided to take on the Oppo R17 Pro, which in the past it has, the OnePlus 6T might as well come with a triple-camera setup at the back. Not only this, the third sensor is expected to be a ToF 3D sensor while the primary sensor will offer variable aperture functionality. I am not sure if OnePlus will go this big with the T update this year so take all this which a pinch of salt.
Rumours has it that Oneplus 6T might be the first device with the Snapdragon 855 processor but I am not counting on this one. In fact what I really want from OnePlus is to increase the battery capacity on the 6T and going by what happened with the 3 and 3T, this might happen.
We don’t expect OnePlus to change a lot in terms of other specifications. A 6GB/8GB RAM with 64GB/128GB internal storage still sounds great in 2018. A Full HD Optic AMOLED display works for most of the people out there. An upgrade to the front-facing camera is on the cards though.
Apart from this, some rumours suggest that OnePlus might bring the updated Dash Charge (now known as WAAP Charge) taking cues from the new VOOC Charge from Oppo. However, I think that this will make more sense on the OnePlus 7 instead of 6T.

5G ready smartphone on 15th January 2019?
This comes in as an interesting twist to the tales of the rumoured OnePlus 6T. OnePlus recently posted a screenshot of calendar highlighting the date 15th January 2019 on the OnePlus 6. We don’t really know if OnePlus is stretching the date for the 6T to January next year or it’s the OnePlus 7? In fact, we don’t even know if this is for a new smartphone? What do you think? If you ask me, this could be a special edition OnePlus device with 5G compatibility.
OnePlus tends to increase the price with every new smartphone it launches. But given the company’s trend I expect an increase of $25 from the OnePlus 6. This translates to $550 for the base variant. If OnePlus can restrict the price of the 6T to $550, it would make up for a great deal if all the rumours I mentioned above come out true.
What do you guys think about the OnePlus 6T so far?
