There is a lot to a smartphone than just specifications so lets break down this comparison even further.
Now out of the box, the Zenfone 5z comes with ZenUI 5.0 based on Android 8.0. I am personally not a big fan of skinned Android so Asus does lose a bit of points here, at least for me. On the other hand, the OnePlus 6 comes with OxygenOS which takes all the good things from the stock Android found on Pixel and adds a little bit of well-thought customizations. Further, running a near stock Android will definitely get you Android updates much faster than any of the skinned Android versions. So there is that.
Camera performance is something which is highly subjective. The Zenfone 5z house a secondary 8 megapixel wide-angle camera while the one on the OnePlus 6 is for improved low-light photography and overall image quality. Most of you will not notice a huge difference in photos taken in bright daylight. While when we move to low-light photography, the OnePlus 6 clearly has the upper hand. Portrait mode on both the smartphones is satisfactory – still nowhere near the Pixel 2. In terms of video recording, the OnePlus 6 is again better – thanks to the Optical Image Stabalization. However, I really like the wide-angle implementation of the secondary lens. Asus is one of the only companies, alongside LG, who chose to go for wide-angle for the secondary lens.
Asus Zenfone 5z is probably the cheapest smartphone in India with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset so Well Done Asus! for the pricing. Compared to the OnePlus 6, you will save about Rs 5,000 so its on you to decide.
Initial impressions of the Asus Zenfone 5z looks promising but we will have to wait and see how far it can sustain. What dk you think? Will your prefer the Asus Zenfone 5z over OnePlus 6?
